    Salicylic Acid

    /sal-ih-SIL-ik/

    Definition

A beta-hydroxy acid (BHA) that penetrates into pores to dissolve oil and dead skin buildup — especially effective for acne, blackheads, and congested skin.

Salicylic acid is unique among exfoliating acids because it's oil-soluble — meaning it can travel down into oily pores and clear them from the inside out. That's why it shows up in nearly every acne product on the market, from drugstore cleansers to professional chemical peels.

ℹ️ Good to KnowOTC products top out at 2%. Professional salicylic peels go higher (up to 30%) for deeper, controlled exfoliation.
