Sebum is the skin's built-in moisturizer — a waxy, oily substance produced by sebaceous glands attached to every hair follicle. In the right amount, it keeps the skin's barrier flexible and water-resistant. In excess, it mixes with dead skin cells inside pores to create the perfect environment for blackheads, whiteheads, and acne.

Definition
The natural oil produced by sebaceous glands in the skin that keeps it moisturized. Overproduction clogs pores and contributes to acne and shine.
ℹ️ Good to KnowStripping oil with harsh cleansers usually makes sebum production worse, not better. Balance — not elimination — is the goal.
